Tripod

A Tripod is a camera accessory that consists of three legs that support a platform on which photographers can place their cameras. When a photographer sets up his camera on a tripod, the stand holds the camera steady, eliminating any distortion caused by a shaky photographer’s hand.

Most tripods come equipped with telescoping legs that allow the photographer to raise or lower the base of the camera stand.

Similarly, the photographer can set the camera up on a tripod and then set the camera’s timer: not only does this free up the photographer’s hands so that he can pose his subject, but it also allows him to get in the shot himself.

By using a tripod, the photographer can also effectively manipulate other aspects of the shot. For example, he may want to adjust the camera’s settings, adjust the camera’s lens or change the lighting in the scene. With his camera set upon a tripod, the photographer can manage and control other factors within his camera’s frame.

While a photographer can purchase a tripod for relatively little money, the higher end tripods come with unique, helpful features, such as swiveling bases.

Tripods are commonly used in wedding pictures, nature shots and glamour photography.
