Hi All. I am wanting to take up photography as a hobby, and hopefully if I am good enough turn it into a career. Right now, I just LOVE taking pictures, but have a Sony Cybershot point and shoot camera. I have been researching DSLR cameras and need help. Since I am so new to photography (really really new), I am not sure which features are more important than others. I go to the camera stores and they tell me to get the basic starter cameras since I am a beginner, but I am not sure if I just want to go ahead and get a great camera with all the bells and whistles so I won't have to upgrade later when I am no longer a beginner. Does anyone have any advice for me about what camera to get? Any help, suggestions, advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I am just so overwhelmed now. Thank you!

Hi,
A couple of months ago I was at the same place you are. I got myself a canon G10, its a semi-professional or semi-SLR as people may call it. Really enjoy taking pictures with it. I guess its good for beginners like us. You can google the reviews for this camera. Its quite easy to learn and use. Including a picture taken from this camera.

Another one...Its a ghost effect ..can be achieved by the camera itself..no photo editing...

Since you are just getting into the higher grade photography I would suggest starting with one of the Cannon Rebel series cameras. The Rebel XT was my first camera 5 years ago and I defiantly believe that it was an awesome starter camera. I just bought the Cannon 7D and can't wait to start using it. The rebel is a nice enough camera that you can take some really nice photos with it and it won't confuse you too much. The higher end cameras have so many features that you can get overwhelmed with learning how to use them. Like I said, I had the rebel XT for 5 years and I am only just now upgrading from it. After the camera you will concentrate so much more on buying different lenses that it will be years before you will get to upgrading your camera. Plus the camera world upgrades so fast, a couple of camera models a year, that by the time you are really comfortable using a your camera you can upgrade to something really nice. Good luck on your camera choice and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Get the best , most sophisticated camera within your budget.Modern DSLRs which encompass all the facilities you will ever need can be used with great flexibility ....... work through from fully auto , get to understand what the scene specifis auto settings can do for you .... then when you are ready you can start to use shutter and aperture priority and eventually take complete control of your creativity on manual.... and remember it IS your creativity that counts , no camera can do it all for you.

To all those looking for advice, go to a brick and mortar store and get a feel for the cameras you're planning on buying. If they'll allow it, try to view sample shots on a computer monitor there so you can evaluate the images properly. If you can't make a decision on which one looks better, DOES IT REALLY MATTER THEN WHICH ONE YOU BUY?????

If you care about image quality then i suggest you to stick with entry level DSLRS,but if you are not going to do large size prints then you can opt for semi professional cameras such as canon SX201S,which comes with 20x optical zoom lens, swivel type LCD and Hot shoe for mounting an external flash and many features.Main disadvantage in these type of cameras are noise produced at higher ISO levels.

I was wondering, that if you are a beginner photographer, that a simple digital camera would be suitable for use, when starting photography as a hobby?
I'd be glad of any help and advice that you could provide .. I really have no idea where to start in all of this!
Thanks in advance :D
