Hi I just started photography. I have a Nikon FE with a Nikon lens Series E 50mm 1:1.8.
There is a split screen when I look through the viewfinder and I know that the image on top and bottom have to align, but how do I do that? I know I can move the aperture setting, but is there anything else that should be able to move on the lens so that it is in focus.
Thanks for your help.

Look for the AF and MF sign on the lens or on the camera AF means auto focus and MF means Manual focus. If you set it to AF your camera lens will adjust itself to focus on your subject so you dont have to worry about the shot being out of focus. If its on MF you can adjust it into any focus you want. If yor worried about the aperture then set the it to a bigger amount so its focus is not only to the closest subject.

I think the Nikon FE predates autofocus.

There are two rings on each fixed focal length lens, the first operating the aperture, this will move in distinctive clicks, the other operating the focus. The focusing ring will be at the opposite end of the lens to the aperture and usually has a feet / metre guide on it.

To my recollection the aperture ring on the lens you mention is towards the camera and the focusing ring is at the far end of the lens, i.e. the end furthest from you when you look through the viewfinder. You will see a raised pattern on the lens, this is the focusing ring, turning it one way or the other will allow the camera to focus.

Hope this helps

Steve
