I am fairly new to photography but i'd like to get a camera that i can use for a while then upgrade when i am ready. I recently used a Sony Alpha 200 and i really liked it because of how user friendly it was. I am looking at a Nikon D5000 or a Canon EOS Rebel T1i. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have never used a Canon DSLR, however a couple of my friends do. I started with used Nikon 6006 film camera, which I purchased used, then moved on to an N70 which I loved, but never really mastered. I am now using a Nikon D90 and absolutely love it. I am put myself on a very sharp learning curve and have learned more about photography in the last three months than I did in years. I am a die hard Nikon fan, but acknowledge Canon makes a darned fine product as well. I would say you cannot go wrong with either choice.
Yes, have to agree with merlin87 and would hesitate to say you must buy this or you must buy that but having had one of the early Sony Alpha 100's, which I thoroughly enjoyed using, I would ask why you want to switch to Nikon or Canon - or was the Sony just on loan? If you have a friendly camera store nearby you should go in and try them all on for size - incl the Olympus and Pentax offerings - they are all very fine cameras but one of them will feel just right in your hands! (Probably the Nikon!)
