My cat moves around… a lot. Should I use a tri-pod to get a non-blurry photo?

Perhaps only use a tri-pod when your cat is feeling lazy or sleeping? Otherwise, if your cat is always moving, you\’d have to juggle the tri-pod and your camera to get the shot.

If you want to take sharp photos of a moving cat ( or any moving object for that matter) you need to be using the right modes on your camera. Firstly look at the camera menu, does the camera have image stabaliser (also known as vr, anti shake, OIS and OS) if so make sure it is turned on. Next look at the mode of the camera as if you have a sports mode it will be best to choose it.
In reference to using a tripod i agree with Tilleyski the tripod can be usefull but can be annoyingly figgity.

I like this idea. Using the motion setting on the camera really helps.

A tripod\’s always a good idea, but . . .
Are you shooting indoors or outdoors. If indoors, are you using a strobe (flash)? Basically, a strobe fires at such a brief rate it\’ll stop any action from your cat. If you use a camera pop-up flash and get blurs, you may have your shutter set to stay open for an intentional blur, which comes because your shutter remains open for an extended period, usually after your flash fires. You can corrrect this using your camera\’s menu.
Of you\’re shooting outdoors and get blurs, you need to use a high shutter speed setting, say 1/250 or higher. As Mat has suggested, you can set your camera to shutter priority or manual, either of which allows you to choose the shutter setting. A shutter priority setting lets you pick the shutter speed and allows the camera to set the lens opening (f/stop).
Manual settings require you to set both your shutter speed and lens opening, tradtionally, called match-needle settins.
If you have simple point and shoot camera, check your manual. You may simply have to wait a bright, sunny day that will force your camera to a higher shutter speed at your camera\’s action setting, often an icon of a running figure.
Good luck,

Well you can try a Tripod, but it may be hard to capture the cat if it moves around alot, there for free hand is way to go, an you never know a \”blurry\” picture may just turn out intresting
Good Luck

In general a tripod will not work and a flash will create some really horible red eye, the best solution is to briten your room suficiantly or beter still just wait untill your cat is at rest.

I think you should just try it out with your hands unless they get shaky, like mine. If they do, use the tripod.
