The reds in my photos always seem to be too bright

The reds in my photos always seem to be too bright or sometimes even a very different tone of red, I have to decrease their saturation by editing software. When I adjust camera settings the other colors look dull when I get the reds correct. I use a Canon EOS 450D and take photos under midday sunlight. What can be the reason for this?

Same problem with my 30D & 40D
I reduced saturation on camera and increase selective (non-red) in PP.
I\’d read an extensive technical explanation some time ago, I underexposed shits with bright reds and that helps also.

The above two steps work great, haven\’t found any simple solution without extra work : (
