Basically, you need an intervening medium, such as smoke or fog or mist or some other transluncent or nearly transparent material. Haze in the atmosphere is the predominant factor in capturing sun rays in most unstaged photos..
It\’s an effect, and can be manually created, but . . . only Hollywood or cash-rich professional photographers have the money and methods to do it with any predicability.
However, smoke from a a fire of green wood can be used if it\’s set (carefully) in a treed area. It\’s iffy, even then..
