help on combo lens for portrait/wedding/landscape (minimum)

Hi.
To be honest, the type of lens you\’re looking for doesn\’t really exist as a good quality lens. You can buy cheap ones, such as the Canon 18-200, or the Nikon equivalent.. but they will produce massive colour fringing (strange colours on the edges of objects) and distortion, as well as possible vignetting and other things such as ghosting.
These lenses are pretty awful if you\’re considering doing wedding photography as a career. But, there is of course the 70-200mm.
The 70-200mm Is a telephoto zoom lens, which is amazingly useful for weddings and portraiture.. In fact, high-end, flagship photographers with £3000 bodies use the 70-200 a lot. It is an amazing lens, no matter what make, as both Nikon and Canon create outstanding results. This will not be amazing for landscapes, as it is quite a narrow lens, meaning you won\’t be able to get much in the shot with landscapes.
There is the alternative, the 24-70. This is a popular lens also. And although it is not as good as the 70-200 with portraits, it has a quite wide angle minimum zoom, which can capture landscapes pretty well.
If you\’re looking for the best of the best, in terms of getting a lens for portraits, weddings and landscapes, there are only two options. The 70-200, which will only allow you to do portraits and weddings out of the three you mentioned, or the 24-70, which won\’t do portraits and weddings quite as well, but will allow for bigger group shots and landscapes.
I would recommend going for the 24-70 if you want this sort of lens, as it\’s a great lens and one to certainly have in your camera bag.
Although, you must get the 70-200 one day. It is an amazing lens, and the advantage to Canon is that they have 5 versions;
70-200 f/2.8 IS version 2(Image Stabilised)
70-200 f/2.8 IS version 1
70-200 f/2.8 Non IS
70-200 f/4 IS
70-200 f/4 non IS
So yeah, all of them differ in price.. I think i\’ve ranked them in order of most expensive (top, £1800) to cheapest (bottom, £600).
So to sum up, I would recommend getting the 24-70mm f/2.8 in either Canon or Nikon (whichever you have) for what you need it for.
But, when you get the money from doing weddings, DEFINITELY get the 70-200 as it is an amazing lens, and once you use it you will find out why.
I recommend you to join froknowsphoto.com/forum as it has lots of great tips about all sorts of things such as these lenses, the advantages of different techniques, F stops etc. etc. The forum is a great place to be with lots of nice people who will be willing to help you out.
I hope this helped, and good luck with your future career/hobby.
