A wide angle lens in the 18mm to 21mm range is an excellent start. If it stops down to f\’/32, that\’s a small plus.

A polarizing screen (filter) is essential for any lens your use in landscape work. A tripod allows you to compose your photos and to wait for the lighting that gives yours shots that something extra.

Unless your digital camera is full-frame — which almost nonel are other than professional models — the general rule is to add 1/3 of a lens\’ focal length to get the equivalent of the same focal length lens used on a traditional film SLR. I have, for example, a 300mm lens that works on both my film and digital cameras. On the digital I get greater magnification, I get the results of a 400mm lens on my.digital. (300/3=100 &- 300+100=400).

This means a 21mm lens on a digital camera pretty much gives you what you\’d get with a 28mm lens on a film camera.

Lenses on digital cameras aren\’t able to give us the wide angles we can get on 35mm film cameras. My apologies if this is more information than you need.
