I don’t own a Coolpix, but I have taken some nice shots with a point and shoot at night/low light. Bring a tripod and some patience. Try to shooting without the flash first, allowing the camera to adjust the shutter speed. Sometimes in urban areas there is enough ambient light to take a decent photo. Next, look through your camera settings to see if you can set a slow sync flash. This will help illuminate your foreground, while capturing more background light, especially if the background is far away.
