I\’ve recently done a low light wedding, so maybe i can shed some light onto this.. (little pun, sorry.)

Well, when you point the flash upwards, you only really do it when you have a little white reflector on your flash – i think most have it built in. You pull it up, pointing at about 80 degrees upwards or 90, to reflect the light from the flash onto the white screen, so that it isn\’t harsh.
I think that\’s the best way to explain it.

Also, for low light photography, the essential thing you need is an external flash, the internal, built-in ones from the camera itself, normally aren\’t really that good. So try to borrow one off a friend or colleague before spending somewhere around £400 for one.

The best way to learn is to practice, really.. so just play around with the settings before everybody comes on, on yourself or the wedding room, to get some good settings. Also, use automatic settings as you will almost never have time to change them whilst trying to take group photos.
