You would need a D-SLR camera paired with a lens with a very large Aperture (around f/1.4 or f/1.8) This would create a very large depth-of-field and provide the blur you want.

The choice between a D-SLR camera and a Point and Shoot camera depends solely on how much money you can spend. If you can drop at least $600 then you would be able to purchase a kit D-SLR. The Nikon D40 and D60 are great cameras, but if you like Canon than the Rebel EOS XSi would suit you.

Aperture automatically saves your edited photo without overwriting your original. These are called \"Masters,\" you can then create different \"Versions,\" of each photo for different edits.
